🇪🇺 Celery Allergen in EU

Celery (Celery and celeriac) is a regulated major allergen in EU that must be clearly declared.

What the Rule Is

Celery must be declared on food labels in European Union as a regulated allergen. This includes the allergen itself and any derivatives. Annex II of Regulation (EU) No 1169/2011 lists the 14 mandatory allergens, and Article 21 requires each one to be emphasised within the ingredients list (for example in bold). A separate "contains" box cannot replace the in-list emphasis.

What You Must Include
  • Clear declaration of "Celery" or specific derivative names
  • Proper emphasis in the ingredients list
  • Declaration of processing aids containing the allergen
Common Violations
  • Using scientific names without the common name "Celery"
